Forcefull pronation of the foot will cause a breach in the midfoot because the calcaneus remains locked in inversion by the tight tarsal ligaments. Fig 14: External rotation or abduction of the foot while the heel is fixed in varus will cause a posterior displacement of the lateral malleolus by externally rotating the talus in the ankle joint. The tibionavicular ligament and the other tight medial tarsal ligaments will not allow the calcaneus to abduct under the talus. | |
